The PRP Skincare Revolution, Starring You

The beauty industry is always looking for the next big thing – because of that, it is vulnerable to fads and trends and faulty science. Once in a while, though, we get a true breakthrough therapy. Welcome to the PRP skincare revolution, as we introduce Blooded Beauty, exclusively at The Corner Suite in Downtown Savannah.

PRP skincare went viral back in 2013, when an Instagram post featuring Kim Kardashian West’s (therapeutically) bloodied face made headlines. In the six years since, the “Vampire Facial®” as it became known, has been branded, the use of the term restricted, and the practice adopted by reputable dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other beauty industry providers.

About that Instagram post:

First of all, our PRP serum is not red. It contains no red blood cells. What you are looking at is the effect of microneedling!

Secondly: Ms. Kardshian West has said she would never endure the procedure again. She found the microdermabrasion that precedes the PRP facial – aka microneedling – extremely painful. Now, thanks to Blooded Beauty, microneedling is unnecessary.

IMPROVING ON THE VAMPIRE FACIAL®

So what is the difference between a Vampire Facial® that requires microneedling and Blooded PRP Serum?

Dr. Paul S. Bradley said it best and he is not known to mince words: “Why bother to punch holes in the face if we don’t have to?”

As Medical Director of The Corner Suite in Savannah, Dr. Bradley oversaw the development of Blooded Beauty. “We had an idea to take the best of everything we know about all-natural skin care and cellular hydration and put in service to the body’s own healing mechanisms,” he says.

I have tried and loved Dr. Barbara Sturm’s skincare products. She is a true pioneer, but her “blood cream” costs upwards of $1400 per jar! And you’d have to travel to Germany or fight with New York City’s A-listers for an appointment at her brand new spa in NoHo, Manhattan. No thank you.

When it came to PRP Skincare, we thought we could do better. At a price point we could afford.

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT BLOODED PRP SERUM?

If there were no PRP in Blooded PRP Serum, it would still be a marvelous product.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring compound and one of the building blocks of great skin. A powerful humectant, it allows our skin cells to attract and retain moisture for that radiant glow we seek. Indeed, HA can hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water.

Because of these hydrating qualities, traditional Hyaluronic Acid “feels good” going on. Lauder. Lancôme. Clinique. All of the big companies have come out with HA serums, and most of the skincare products you rely on contain HA. The fact, however, is that most HA cannot penetrate the deepest layers of the skin.

While we use traditional Hyaluronic Acid in our PRP Serum (it is important that your skincare products feel good!), we also use low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid that migrates deeply, carrying with it the natural healing properties found in PRP.

I will have a lot more to say about the magic of PRP in a future blog post, but I will leave you with this from Dr. Bradley:

“We are finding that PRP, and platelets in particular, are kind of miraculous. When you cut yourself, you don’t think twice about the fact that your skin reorganizes and repairs itself. New research suggests that it’s the platelets in our blood organizing the whole event—telling your body how to make the repair. So it makes sense that something powerful enough to repair a cut could help to mitigate little sun damage.”
